Peter’s encounter with Chinese martial arts seems to be a skillful arrangement of fate. Since I was a child, I have always been fascinated by oriental cultures. Whenever I saw those martial arts masters in movies, dressed in long robes and with extraordinary skills, my heart would always be flooded with an inexpressible excitement and yearning. Those flowing movements not only show the perfect combination of power and beauty, but also contain deep philosophical thinking and cultural heritage, which fascinates me deeply. Thus, an idea took root in his heart – to experience the mystery and charm of the Orient for himself.
Crossing thousands of mountains for a martial arts dream
In pursuit of this dream, I decided to embark on a journey to China. For me, it was not just a simple trip, but a spiritual pilgrimage. After arriving in China, I couldn’t wait to find a martial arts school that suited my needs. After a careful selection process, Peter joined the Shaolin Temple Cultural Center, where martial arts enthusiasts from all over the world gather to study this ancient and mysterious art.
Sweat and tears at the beginning of training
Learning at the beginning was not as easy as Peter thought it would be. Every morning, when the first rays of sunlight pierced through the mist and illuminated the green stone floor of the martial arts center, I was ready to take on a new challenge. The practice of basic skills is boring and arduous, Za Ma Bu, practicing boxing, playing sets …… each action needs to be practiced repeatedly until muscle memory is formed. Sweat soaked his shirt, soreness attacked the limbs, but I never had the thought of giving up. I know that only after a thousand hammers can we see the essence of martial arts. Whenever he looks back at the day’s achievements alone in the quiet of the night, the sense of fulfillment from the inside always drives away all the fatigue and sleepiness.
The Beauty of Wushu: A Double Baptism for Body and Mind
As time goes by, I gradually feel the unique charm of Chinese martial arts. It is not only a fighting skill, but also a way to cultivate his body and mind. Under the careful guidance of the master, I began to learn the softness and strength of taijiquan, and realized the philosophy of “softness overcomes hardness”; when practicing Shaolin Long Fist, the hearty and courageous momentum made him seem like a warrior on the ancient battlefield, fearless. More importantly, martial arts have taught me perseverance and self-discipline, allowing me to remain calm and relaxed in the face of difficulties and challenges.
Cultural Intermingling, Heartfelt Touch
Besides the krijgskunst itself, I was deeply attracted by the traditional Chinese culture. In the martial arts center, I made many friends from different countries, and we studied and exchanged ideas, sharing our cultural backgrounds and martial arts experiences. This cross-cultural exchange broadened Peter’s horizons and gave me a deeper understanding and recognition of Chinese culture. Whenever festivals come, the Wushu Hall will organize celebrations, and I always take an active part in them, feeling the strong festive atmosphere and the warmth between people.
Harvest and Prospects: The Road of Wushu, Unfinished Business
Now that I have traveled farther and farther on the path of Chinese martial arts, he has become increasingly skillful and has a deeper understanding of the martial arts. Deeply aware that the study of wushu is a journey without end, every progress is a challenge and transcendence of the limits of the self. In the future, I hope to bring what I have learned back to Belgium, so that more people will understand and fall in love with Chinese Wushu, and I also hope to have the opportunity to further my education and explore the higher realm of Wushu.
When I look back on this experience of learning Chinese martial arts, my heart is full of gratitude and happiness. “Wushu has not only given me a strong body and a tough will, but also taught me how to face everything in life with a calm mind. This gift from the East will stay with me for the rest of my life and become the most valuable treasure in my life.”
